This one is not actually a blog post, but had to put it up.

After the heart wrenching photo of Aylan Kurdi went viral, I read in the papers that IS is using the image to propagate their agenda with a heading ” The Danger of Abandoning Darul Islam”. Weren’t Kurdi’s being slaughtered like livestock in their own homes?  The many stories that reached us through the papers itself were painful, God alone knows how many more of the gory details never reached us. And this was supposed to be safer than running into unknown waters?  At this point I was totally flabbergasted.

And that’s when I read about Benedict Cumberbatch appearance in a video for Save the Children. He quoted from Home, the work of Somali poet Warsan Shire, which includes the lines: “No-one leaves home unless home is the mouth of a shark… You only run for the border when you see the whole city running as well. No-one puts their child in a boat unless the water is safer than the land.”

It just touched my heart!

Today when the whole world is fighting some deamon or the other, I just wonder where are my kids safe? The Syrian war is hardly over, france has unrest, hongkong protests and protests in India continue to rage. The Ukraine and Russia are at loggerheads, similarly there are border disputes between India- Pakistan, Turkey and its neighbors, Isarel and Palestine to name a few. The African continent is riddled with war-lords and pseudo wars. Add to it the escalated tension between Iran – Iraq and USA.

As if the man-made chaos and blood-shed was not enough we have Australia fighting with bushfires, Japan battling earthquakes and rains and flooding in Peru and Columbia

Where are my kids safe?

Are we as mankind really not ashamed of all this? I think we owe it to our children that we hand over to them a better planet and a better mankind.
